Pool Safety FAQs

Installation Instructions

The Pool Fence DIY system comes with a manual opening that is formed by disconnecting the latch where two sections meet. The self-closing, self-latching gate is optional upgrade that will make your Pool Fence DIY both safer and more convenient. Self-closing, self-latching gates are recommended by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance. We recommend a self-closing, self-latching gate for every pool fence, but especially in homes with older children present who will be accessing the pool and might not remember to close the gate behind them.
Yes. Almost every pool fence installation will require a section to be customized with a cut. All that's needed is a sharp pair of scissors. Each section comes with a piece of border material to finish the edge you cut. Click here for the instructions.
Yes, we make a longer dirt spike to be used in grass, sand, or dirt. Click here.
We make a 3-foot extension piece that can be cut to size. The extension must be attached to another section of fence or used with a spare pole. They are available in Black and Brown.
Every building code is different, but we haven't found one yet that we don't meet or exceed. Some codes require making the fence permanent. We recommend adding the Perma-Lock to your fence in order to satisfy that code requirement.
To prevent damage of the mark-out templates, they are wrapped tightly in the section of fence. Please completely unroll your fence sections to locate the templates. If, after completely unrolling and unpacking all components of your fence section box, you do not find the mark out template, please contact us. We will ship you a replacement. We can be contacted 7-days a week by phone at (561) 316-6418 or email us
We have an installation instructions page, complete with images, for this exact type of situation on our website. You will essentially be making a mini-section of the fence for the elevated portion of the deck (each stair). Click Here for installation instructions to complete the fence for a pool deck with stairs or elevation changes.
The strength and age of the concrete will dictate how close to the edge you can drill the holes. If the slab is fairly old with large cracks, you should leave more space. The opposite is true for newer, harder concrete. A general rule is to leave 3 to 4 inches from the slab’s edge.

If you are worried the concrete is too old, or too brittle; another option would be to treat the concrete as if they are pavers. You could complete the installation in that manner to be safe. Click here for paver installation instructions.
When installing our removable mesh safety fences in concrete, you will need a drill bit that is 5/8″ in diameter. When using our drilling guide to install the fence, your masonry bit must be a minimum of 14″ in length.
Wood deck installations can be handled a few different ways depending on the deck’s height above ground. You can see the installation instructions by clicking here.

If the deck is really close to the dirt/ ground below; you can use another method. Essentially, you will drill the holes as usual. From there you will use ½” L Copper (found at your local hardware store). For example: if your deck is 10” inches above the ground, you can cut the ½” L Copper to 18-24” Lengths. Simply hammer them in to the ground at the proper angle until the copper is flush with the top of the deck. From there you will install the fence as usual.

The fences are very sturdy when installed properly. The horizontal tension that is created when the system is completely latched will prevent most, if not all, adults from being able to push the fence over or pull it up completely out of the holes. It passes all the requirements of ASTM F2286 which governs this type of fence.

Technical

We offer a conversion sleeve that fits into a 1 1/8" hole and receives our PoolfenceDIY models of fencing. The Conversion Sleeve can be found here.
Yes. If you are installing the fence in the ground we recommend using our dirt spikes with concrete footers.

We also have a 24" tall fence designed to be a pet barrier, click here for more information.
The latch and hinges are not attached to the gate or uprights because we want the customer to be able to install the gate whichever way will best suit the installation. The latch can be installed on either the left or the right side to best suit the layout of the fence for each situation.
Some geographical areas have dirt or clay that can be nearly as strong as cement, which can provide sufficient strength at the time of installation. But we have found as time passes with storms, rain, and wind; the area around the dirt sleeves can be loosened, allowing for the pressures of the fence to break the dirt sleeves. This is why our manufacturer’s recommendation for all dirt type installations is; cement footers must be used. After all, this is a safety product meant to save the lives of our loved ones. The fence should always be installed with the strongest methods possible.
